Family Readiness Kit A family readiness kit has been prepared to help Mississippians prepare themselves and their families for future disasters. The lessons learned from Hurricane Katrina taught that we have not done enough to prepare ourselves for what might occur. This kit contains information about how to prepare yourself and as well as how to work with your neighborhood and community and how to deal with the effects that children may encounter after a disaster. Disaster Preparedness Plan for Pediatricians One of Hurricane Katrina's harshest lessons was the importance of a solid and comprehensive disaster plan. Pediatricians need to prepare themselves and their practices so that we can better care for children during and after the next catastrophe. This preparedness handbook is targeted specifically to pediatricians. This guide draws upon the experiences of physicians, nurses, and families who witnessed Katrina first-hand, as well as input from other experts in preparedness.
