Be Our Voice Obesity Advocacy Project
The MS Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics is working with several partners to address the childhood obesity problem in MS. Specifically, the
Be Our Voice projectis working to develop more individuals who will advocate for activities, practices, and policies that will help to make Mississippi a healthier place for children. With funding from the National Initiative for Children’s Healthcare Quality and the California Medical Association, the Chapter has provided an Advocacy Training for 60+ healthcare professionals and encouraging advocates to work on obesity prevention activities and policies in their areas of influence. Specifically, advocates, including pediatric and medicine/pediatric residents from University of MS Medical Center, are contacting schools in the Jackson Metro area to offer to participate in the legislatively mandated School Health Councils.
